Hot Weather and Good Reads

Published by celtic_aura under 1 Edit This

I’m not sure what the weather’s like where you are, but in my neck of the woods, Spring has finally sprung.  I find that in the Spring and Summer months I often look for lighter books to read than the usual mystery or supernatural fare.  Well, maybe lighter isn’t quite the right word.  I find I read a lot more chick lit in the warmer months.  I think it has something to down with liking to snuggle down with a good murder during the colder months. So now that the weather is warmer,  I’m looking towards what great summer reads I want to pick up.

One I know for sure I will be reading is Jodi Picoult’s Second Glance.  I run an on line book club at Edwardsmagazine.ca and this was one of the wonderful choices from Simon and Schuster Canada.  Now, I’ve never read any of Jodi’s books due to the fact that I have always HATED romance books.  But I am starting to realize that you can have romance in a book without it being all heaving boobs and crap.   And, admittedly, the story is of a supernatural nature, about ghost hunters and communicating with spirits from the beyond.  It just sounds too yummy!

Another book I just know I will pick up is PS I Love You by Cecelia Ahern.  Now, I know, I know; this is serious romantic chick lit territory I’m entering.  But I have heard such great things about this book that I’m curious.  And I want to see the movie, but I’ll read the book first.

If you folks out there are looking for a great summer read, I strongly suggest (with whip in hand) that you run out right now and pick up Marisa de los Santos’ amazing novel Belong to Me.  I couldn’t get enough of this book (courtesy of HarperCollins Canada) and have been blabbing about it to anyone who would listen.  This book is part mystery/part love story, but what makes it great are the characters.  Another book by her Love Walked In is about two of the main characters in Belong to MeLove Walked In will be another book I delve into while sitting on my deck with an iced tea in hand.  Maybe even Long Island.
